Hey all, here's my latest ministry update letter! Feel free to download the PDF or read the rest below. :)
If you're on my team of partners, you should be receiving an email or snail-mail copy shortly. If you'd like to start receiving these letters, just contact me and let me know!
Friends,
Yet another busy month has come and gone for our little team, and we're still as committed to sharing the gospel on campus as ever!
As I mentioned in my previous letter, September was the first month of classes in CSU's fall semester, and our small campus is absolutely full of students! Over the past several group meetings on campus, we've had three new students join our meeting just because they saw us worshiping God and were attracted by what they saw.
What incredible opportunities for the gospel! What an incredible testament to the glory of God!
Situations like these constantly remind me that God will use us if only we step out in faith and allow ourselves to be used by him. Even if we just make ourselves available to students and young adults, relationships are built. And those relationships can be not only a lifeline in someone's darkest hour, but they can also be an incredibly effective channel for the gospel!
As an example, our ladies went out for their first “Girl's Night.” I personally wasn't involved, but I hear it was a blast! I know it's been hard for them to organize these kinds of events in the past, so please pray that the women's ministry would continue growing! Satan hates seeing fellowship events like that, because those ladies are building the kinds of relationships that form the church!
Please also pray that we would continue to reach out to students on campus and share the gospel of Christ with them! There are so many students, and our team is so small. Furthermore, with me still raising my support, our team hasn't even had the manpower to launch the next phase of the ministry.
Speaking of raising support, September has been a big month for us! For one thing, we finally crossed the 20% mark, which by itself has been both a cause for celebration and a reason to pause. Of course every milestone is a gift from God and is received with gladness. However, at this rate, we won't be able to launch the next phase of our ministry until as late as Fall Semester 2012.
Furthermore, my savings have now completely run dry, and I've had to resort to borrowing money in order to pay my bills. So this would be a very good time for all of us to pray that God will continue to generously provide for my needs during this difficult time.
Despite all of this, I refuse to be discouraged! In fact, a couple weeks ago I attended a Great Commission Ministries follow-up training session in Chicago. This was a training session intended to polish up our process of raising support, remind us of the value of what we're doing, and encourage us to redouble our efforts. So a redoubling of efforts is in order!
In fact, if anything, I have been struck by a renewed sense of vigor! The rate of support raised so far has absolutely nothing to do with the pace over the next few months! In fact, since God himself is raising up the support among us, he can raise it as quickly as he likes!
And I do hope it pleases him to bring it soon! Aside from my own sacrifices during this time, I keep thinking back to all of those students on campus who aren't hearing about Jesus! How many of these students are lost? What a tragedy! How can we allow the gospel to remain unproclaimed here for two or even three more semesters?
So friends I ask you, as audacious as it is, to join me in praying that God will provide the remaining 80% in 100 days! That would coincide directly with the beginning of CSU's Spring Semester. And what a welcome miracle that would be!
Do we believe that our God works miracles? Of course we do! So let's ask him for one! I've made it easy for you to follow along as you pray, by simply going to AlexMarkley.com and watching that progress bar leap forward!
You can also help us build buzz by sharing the site with your friends and family, you can encourage our team by posting comments on the site, and if you'd like to move that progress bar forward yourself, you can even make a donation!
Thank you so much, and God bless!
