This page contains some good examples of my various creative and technical achievements. Please feel free to peruse them at your leisure. The Ruins of Mi'ren
A short film about exploration, adventure, and what might happen if you wander too far off the beaten path. Featuring Gabriel Markley's sterling features, the ruins of an ancient temple, and a dangerously powerful book, you know it's gotta be good.

On this project…
- I wrote tools to translate artist input into geometry.
- I wrote tools to translate results from PF Hoe match-moving software into POV-Ray compatible data structures.
- I wrote tools to interpolate non-linear camera motion from frame-by-frame camera positions, allowing motion blur in a key match-moving sequence.
- I wrote a tool to efficiently parallelize rendering jobs across many CPUs. (Stable version of POV-Ray had no parallelization support, and the beta version was too buggy for production work.)
- I performed all VFX-related work, including compositing, complex masking, and color-correcting.
- I composed and recorded music for the film's score.
- I created every sound in the film from foley or synthesis, and performed all sound design and editing.
- I created the temple geometry both procedurally and by hand using POV-Ray's scene description language.
- I directed artist work on titles, mountain geometry, and texturing.
- I wrote, directed, produced, shot, and finished the project on time and under budget. (From start to finish, the entire short took 25 days to complete, including 10 days of ray-tracing.)
Malex Media Network® Logo Animation
A short animation designed to precede all videos produced by the Malex Media Network.® Features lots and lots of procedurally-generated geometry and poor man's motion-blur.

On this project…
- I designed an algorithm and wrote a tool to procedurally generate the terrifying maze geometry.
- I programmed camera motion using a few points in space, bézier curves, and sheer force of will.
- I directed artist work on the logo design and logo geometry.
- I composited in the titles and performed final finishing work.
- I created the sounds by foley and synthesis.
- I composed and recorded the “MMN® Jingle.”
Structures Album Art
The CGI in this image was designed in late 2006 as the cover image for the album Structures. (This image is a pre-release promotional wallpaper image containing the same CGI.) Due to severe time constraints, production of the final high-resolution image was broken up into groups of scanlines and the work was distributed across 24 render jobs. The rendered scanlines were manually spliced together to achieve the finished result.

On this project…
- I designed an algorithm and wrote a tool to procedurally generate the geometry for the image.
- I directed artist work on textures.
- I composited and mastered the final image.
- I successfully completed the image under the pressure of print deadlines without compromising the artistic vision for the final product.
The Malex Minute
The Malex Minute is an ongoing, weekly audio comedy podcast produced by me for the Malex Media Network.® It has been running without hiatus for more than 2.5 years since March of 2006, and has regular listeners across the United States as well as several other countries. Following are a few excellent examples of my creative work on the show.

On this project…
- I am the showrunner, and am responsible for producing and directing every episode.
- I am the head writer. (I lead the writing team, delegate writing tasks, and edit script drafts in preparation for production.)
- I voice the character ‘Malex’ in addition to many other secondary characters.
- I composed and recorded the theme song. I also compose and record any incidental music required by a particular script.
- I record or synthesize sound effects required by the script. (Or, if producing a new effect is impractical, I find appropriately-licensed third-party sound effects.)
- I designed an XML schema and accompanying tools for collaboratively creating, transforming, and communicating scripts, with an eye toward long-term data durability and repository scalability.
